2019 Bodega Chacra Estate Chardonnay
What it is:
100% Chardonnay, aged in a combination of concrete eggs, stainless steel, and used French oak barrels. This wine is a collaboration between Bodega Chacra and Jean-Marc Roulot of Meursault. From the Patagonia region of Argentina.
Why we like it:
Bodega Chacra is owned by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta of Sassicaia. The wines are superb and offer layers of complexity from the fascinating region of Patagonia, the southernmost winemaking region in Argentina. Weather influenced by Antarctica combines with the desert like conditions of Southern Argentina creates a long, cool growing season. This allows cool climate varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir an opportunity to develop without the risk of becoming too ripe or moldy. Allow this special occasion wine some time in a decanter to open up.
